If you have always been drawn to stories,or love to share them, but feel you could do better; if you don’t do much storytelling, but want to do more and more often; if you want to have a solid foundation and something to hold on to when you need or want to tell stories at work, at home, or when you’re out and about in the city with your friends, THIS INTRODUCTORY COURSE TO ORAL STORYTELLING IS FOR YOU.

In a two-day course (12 hours with breaks) on 11-12 May, we will explore oral storytelling and its power to connect people, to engage people with information, to increase empathy, to enhance the imagination, to entertain, and to make listening enjoyable.

Through a series of practical exercises, we will explore the structure of stories, the visuality of words, the importance of the message of the story and the importance of connecting with the audience/listener. The principles of oral storytelling, the most archaic form of storytelling, can also be applied to written, visual and audio storytelling.

ABOUT THE TEACHER: 

Milda Varnauskaitė is an international storyteller, storytelling coach, curator and producer based in Vilnius, Lithuania. Her style fuses stories from the Baltic region with life experiences and insights, often through the lens of comedy. She performs regularly across Lithuania and internationally, some key events were at The Oerol Festival of Terschelling in the Netherlands, ‘Amsterdam International Storytelling Festival’, MIX UP festival in Paris, FESTival in Denmark, and La Nombril du Monde in France. A proud graduate of Mezrab Storytelling School (2017), Milda also studied storytelling at Oslo Metropolitan University (2020) and Berlin Summer University of the Arts (2020). She teaches storytelling at Vilnius University, works as a storytelling coach at the National Museum of Lithuania and is the host of bi-monthly open stage storytelling nights in English in Vilnius.
